On 29th January of 1996 – President Jacques Chirac announces a “definitive end” to French nuclear weapons testing. The French carried out 6 experiments to determine the effectiveness, yield, and explosive capability of nuclear weapons. French President Jacques Chirac announced the decision on national television on this day, calling the halt “the definitive end of French nuclear testing.”
